What is Texas SR22 Insurance ?

Answer: "Texas SR22 Insurance". is ";Auto", or other coverage such as an Operators or Non Owners Policy, Where the Insured has Requested evidence of compliance from the Insuring company. The form is an endorsement to your auto liability policy. This is usually the result of a Traffic Ticket for driving without the minimum financial responsibility or a DWI or a DUI citation, accidents or other traffic related incidents.

25/50/25 or 75 total is the minimum required limits indicating verifiable compliance for the state on behalf of the named insured.

SR 22 Filing Term

The most common and customary term is 2 years from the date of order. Requirements vary depending on your case so you should check with your jurisdiction. Certain offenses may have court ordered terms longer than 2 years.

Responsibilities during Term

Make sure your insurer is aware of your requirement.

Keep your policy active to avoid possible suspension. make premium payments on time and be sure your Company is aware of your requirements.

Keep your mailing address current. It is required by law anyway and is also the address where DPS and sends mail regarding licensing status and updates.

Don't drive without Coverage. If you have a lapse, cease driving and replace as soon as possible.

Penalty for Failure to Maintain

You need to maintain until your filing period has expired. Your  insuring company has been required by law to notify the state by cancellation of your SR 22, If not replaced with another, then your Drivers License along with vehicle tags and registrations can again be suspended.

I No longer Need an SR 22 Endorsement

Your Auto coverage continues in force unless you request otherwise. If you wish you may request the Endorsement be removed when no longer needed. Remember, proof of  Financial Responsibility is required for all drivers when on public roads.
